In 2016 the prices of live cattle and lean hogs have moved lower as supplies have been abundant. In my latest article for Seeking Alpha, I explain why animal protein prices have moved lower, in the case of cattle to the lowest in six years, but caution against becoming too comfortable with cheap prices for burgers, steak, and pork.

A Correction in the Pork-Beef Spread- Is now the time to buy cattle?

Back in March 2015, the price of beef soared relative to the price of pork. In my latest piece for QT Ag Online I look at the action in the live cattle-lean hog spread, explain why mean reversion caused cattle to move lower relative to hogs and suggest that now is the time to eat steak because next year it may be more expensive once again.

Animal Proteins Q1 Report

In the animal protein sector traded on the U.S. futures exchanges cattle prices moved lower in Q1 and lean hog prices moved considerably higher. In my latest piece for QT Ag Online I review the results of the first three months of 2016 in the meat markets and look forward to grilling season in the United States which commences in a few weeks.
