I have been writing that weakness in oil product prices over recent months has been a weight around the neck of the energy commodity. In my latest work for Seeking Alpha, I look at the recent rally in the gasoline crack spread and rejection of the lows when oil took a peek below $40 last week. I also look at the current state of the oil market and explain why the energy commodity is caught between bullish and bearish factors and the path of least resistance is far from clear for the months ahead.

The price of crude oil almost doubled since the February 11 lows but it was natural gas that was the best performing energy commodity in Q2. Crude oil has been volatile but it moved higher on a week-on-week basis last week even though inventories rose, the dollar strengthened and the Saudi oil minister said no way to production cuts. In my latest work for Seeking Alpha, I look at a key technical signal from gasoline in the middle of last week as well as use Shakespeare to opine on the comments of the oil minister to try to make some sense out of the puzzle of the international petroleum market which is no easy task these days.
