In the 70s, 80s and 90s commodity trading houses dominated physical commodity trading. Changes in regulation resulted in the banks entering the business in the late 90s and through 2014. New regulatory initiatives pushed the business back into the hands of traditional trading companies in 2014- these new commodity powerhouses are domicile in countries with fewer rules and regulations.
