An intra-commodity spread is the purchase of a futures contract and the simultaneous sale of another futures contract for a different month in the same commodity on the same futures exchange. Intra-commodity spreads are synonymous with calendar or time spreads. In my latest article for About.com, I discuss how movements in these spreads often spotlight changes in a market’s fundamentals.
